SUMMARY:Advancing Research on Care and Outcome Measurements (ARCOM) funding program Letters of Intent due
DESCRIPTION:In  collaboration with LINC-AD (Leveraging an Interdisciplinary Consortium to Improve Care and Outcomes for Persons Living with Alzheimer’s and Dementia)\, the Alzheimer’s Association is currently accepting applications for the new Advancing Research on Care and Outcome Measurements (ARCOM) funding program.  The goal of the program is to address gaps in care and outcome measurement and advance research efforts to ensure that care providers are implementing evidence-based practices (using measures to guide care provision) and achieving desired outcomes (using measures to assess outcomes).  Work funded through ARCOM must directly advance research projects focused on development of new and/or validation of previously developed measures of care and outcomes where measurement gaps exist. \nThe Alzheimer’s Association anticipates funding up to 8 ACROM proposals for up to  $250\,000 total funding (direct and indirect costs) over a period of up to two years (minimum of 1 year). \nRead the full RFA here. A letter of intent is due by May 5.  \nTo learn more about this funding opportunity\, visit their website.

SUMMARY:2021 Health Care Systems Research Network (HCSRN) Conference
DESCRIPTION:The HCSRN annual conference is the nation’s preeminent gathering for researchers based in real-world health care systems and our numerous collaborators in academic health systems\, funding agencies\, and patient-partner communities. The conference offers a diverse slate of content\, showcasing rigorous\, relevant research on important conditions affecting millions of patients. \nIMPACT members are among the panelists presenting\, “Aging Research Opportunities for the HCSRN: Finally Reaching Maturity Chronic Conditions\, Multi-Morbidity & Aging Populations” at 3:00 PM on Wednesday\, May 12. \nThe National Institute of Aging (NIA) has invested in the development of infrastructure within the framework of aging research. This panel will provide an overview of three major NIA-funded initiatives that lead efforts to support aging research and training of junior investigators. The Health Care Systems Research Network (HCSRN)-Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Centers (HCSRN-OAIC) “AGING” (Advancing Geriatrics Infrastructure & Network Growth) Initiative aims to create a national resource to nurture and advance an interdisciplinary research agenda focused on older adults with multiple chronic conditions. The National Institute on Aging (NIA) IMbedded Pragmatic Alzheimers disease (AD) and AD Related Dementias (AD/ADRD) Clinical Trials (IMPACT) Collaboratory aims to build the nation’s capacity to conduct pragmatic clinical trials of interventions embedded within health care systems for people living with dementia and their care partners. The US Deprescribing Research Network (USDeN) aims to develop and disseminate evidence about deprescribing for older adults\, and in doing so to help improve medication use among older adults and the outcomes that are important to them.\n\n\nPresenters:\n\nElizabeth Bayliss\, Kaiser Permanente Colorado\, CO \nJerry Gurwitz\, Meyers Primary Care Institute\, MA \nLeah Hanson\, HealthPartners\, MN \nEric Larson\, Kaiser Permanente Washington\, MA \nMarcel Salive\, NIA\, MD

SUMMARY:2021 AFTD Education Conference (Two Days)
DESCRIPTION:On May 13th and 14th\, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. ET each day\, the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (AFTD) will convene its 2021 Education Conference online. People and families affected by FTD will find help\, support\, and opportunities to connect. Researchers and experts will offer information and guidance through interactive presentations. Health professionals will find information and strategies they can use to better serve families. \nEvery year\, AFTD brings together people and families navigating the FTD journey — as well as researchers and health professionals — to learn about the latest in FTD research\, and to learn new strategies for care\, management\, and support. Our conference offers a chance to connect with others who understand — and share hope for a future free of FTD. \nFor the health and safety of all\, this year’s conference will be broadcast online. It is free to attend. \nLearn more on the AFTD website.

SUMMARY:NIH Collaboratory Grand Rounds Workshop Series: Inclusion of Diverse Participants in Pragmatic Clinical Trials
DESCRIPTION:The NIH Health Care Systems Research Collaboratory is launching a special workshop series on its popular Grand Rounds program to explore the inclusion of diverse participants in pragmatic clinical trials. This series will include topics on increasing engagement of diverse participants and building trust\, including diverse sites\, learning from implementation science to maximize diversity\, and developing a pipeline of trainees from underrepresented groups to be leaders in pragmatic clinical research. \nThe webinar series will kick off on Friday\, May 14\, at 1 p.m. ET with a keynote presentation by Dr. Clyde Yancy\, Vice Dean of Diversity and Inclusion and Chief of Cardiology in the Department of Medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.

DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a lecture from the Joint Seminar Series on Clinical Trials in Aging: Strategies to Improve Nursing Home COVID-19\nVaccine Uptake featuring Sarah Berry\, MD\, MPH\, Harvard Medical School & Hinda and Arthur Marcus Institute for Aging Research. \nNursing homes residents represent about 1% of the US population but\, at the height of the pandemic\, contributed about 5% of cases and nearly 40% of deaths. Residents and staff were prioritized for vaccination\, but staff uptake\, in particular\, has remained low. \nDr. Berry will present on strategies to improve COVID-19 vaccine uptake\, including data from IMPACT Collaboratory observational  studies and a pragmatic trial. \nThe Joint Seminar Series on Clinical Trials in Aging is co-hosted by the Interventional Studies in Aging Center (ISAC) in the Hinda and Arthur Marcus Institute for Aging Research at Hebrew SeniorLife and the Brown University Center for Long-Term Care Quality & Innovation (Q&I).
