SUMMARY:Grand Rounds: Kimberly Johnson\, MD | Embedding Health Equity in a Cluster Randomized Trial of an Advance Care Planning Intervention
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for Grand Rounds on April 21\, 2022 from 12pm – 1pm ET. Kimberly Johnson\, MD\, will discuss “Embedding Health Equity in a Cluster Randomized Trial of an Advance Care Planning Intervention.” \nDate/Time: April 21\, 2022 from 12pm – 1pm ET\nSpeaker: \n\nKimberly Johnson\, MD\nProfessor of Medicine and Director of the Duke Center for Research to Advance Healthcare Equity\, Duke Health \nKimberly Johnson\, MD\,  is a clinical investigator nationally known for her research on racial disparities in palliative care for older adults. Her work has identified multi-domain and multi-level factors\, which are associated with racial disparities in the quality of palliative care for African Americans. This includes differences in patterns of care between older African American and White patients enrolled in hospice; racial variation in knowledge\, beliefs\, and attitudes toward hospice and palliative care; geographic variation in racial disparities in hospice use; and organizational factors associated with greater use of hospice care by older African Americans. Dr. Johnson has led large national studies of hospice providers\, and multi-site studies of academic and community-based organizations to reduce racial disparities and improve the quality of palliative care delivery for older African Americans. Dr. Johnson is the director of the Duke Center for Research to Advance Healthcare Equity (REACH Equity). She serves as a co-investigator on CAPC’s project\, Equitable Access to Quality Palliative Care for Black Patients: A Scan of Challenges and Opportunities. In this role\, she helps to lead all aspects of identifying replicable interventions to drive equitable access to palliative care for Black patients and families. \nZoom Conferencing \nJoin from PC\, Mac\, iOS or Android: https://hebrewseniorlife.zoom.us/j/97344810673 \nDial-In:  +1 312 626 6799 (US Toll) or  +1 470 250 9358 (US Toll) \nMeeting ID:  973 4481 0673

LOIs are accepted on a rolling basis through March 4\, 2022 @ 5pm ET. \n\nFunding Details \nIn this cycle\, the IMPACT Collaboratory will fund up to five 1-year awards for pilot pragmatic clinical trials (ePCTs) that test non-pharmacological interventions embedded in health care system(s) for people living with AD/ADRD and their care partners. SUMMARY:Training Workshop Application Deadline
DESCRIPTION:The IMPACT Collaboratory will hold the second annual Training Workshop on January 26-27\, 2022 entitled Building Skills to Conduct Embedded Pragmatic Clinical Trials (ePCTs) among People Living with Dementia (PLWD) and their Care Partners. This virtual 1.5-day workshop will provide a foundation in practical aspects of designing and conducting ePCTs in Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (AD/ADRD) through a combination of activities including: panel discussions\, small group sessions\, and networking opportunities with experts in the field. \nThe training workshop will feature 3 modules focused on: \n1) integrating health equity into ePCTs\, \n2) ethical considerations for ePCTs for people living with dementia and care partners\, and \n3) the challenges and opportunities related to conducting ePCTs with care partners of people living with dementia. \nWe are inviting applications from early to mid-stage researchers who seek to develop competence in designing and conducting ePCTs of non-pharmacological interventions embedded in health care systems (HCS) for people living with dementia and care partners. \nSuccessful applicants will be expected to complete selected readings and online training prior to the workshop. \nUpon completion of the workshop\, participants will be able to:https://app.smartsheet.com/b/form/b3939d1e720c44369fd9009a10894add \n\nTransmit knowledge about designing and conducting ePCTs among PLWD and care partners in health care systems that integrates considerations of health equity\nAddress common ethical considerations in designing and conducting ePCTs for PLWD and care partners\nApply the acquired knowledge to move their current and future research in ePCTs forward\, including applying for competitive funding\n\nAll participants are expected to attend and participate in the entire 1.5-day event. \nApply here.

SUMMARY:Informational Webinar: Request for Applications for IMPACT Demonstration Project Program Cycle 2
DESCRIPTION:New Funding Opportunity: Request for Applications for IMPACT Demonstration Project Program\n\n\nThe IMPACT Collaboratory is pleased to announce a Request for Applications (RFA) for the second cycle of the Demonstration Project Program. \nIMPACT will fund up to two Demonstration Projects (maximum duration 24 months) designed as full-scale\, Stage IV effectiveness embedded pragmatic clinical trials (ePCT) (based on the NIH Stage Model) that test\, measure and evaluate the effect of a non-pharmacological care delivery intervention program in a health care system for people living with Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) and AD-related dementias (ADRD) and their care partners.  The goal of the Demonstration Project is to generate evidence on effective care delivery practices that can be expanded and/or implemented in other systems. \nUnder this mechanism\, interventions must be linked to the needs of the health care system.  Suitable interventions typically encompass relatively simple system changes or direct patient outreach\, or successfully piloted programs ready for testing at scale. Demonstration Projects will allow health care systems and investigators to gain real-world experience integrating pragmatic non-pharmacological interventions into usual clinical workflow and health care delivery practices in a controlled manner that provides clear information on the impact of the intervention program. \nThe IMPACT Collaboratory will only fund Demonstration Project applications that include a clinical trial as defined by the National Institutes of Health.  Preference will be given to applications that address dementia care for populations historically marginalized or underrepresented in clinical trials and those that promote health equity. \nIt is anticipated that Demonstration Project awards will be for up to $500\,000 in direct costs for a maximum of 24-months and will be non-renewable. \nLearn more about the Demonstration Projects Program here. \nInformational Webinar \nAn optional informational webinar will be hosted to provide investigators with an overview of application details and an opportunity to ask questions. Pre-registration is required using the link below. \nTuesday\, October 19\, 2021 at 1:00 pm ET: Registration closed. \nLetters of Intent (LOI) by Email – Required\nInterested applicants are required to submit an LOI. LOIs are accepted on a rolling basis through: \nOctober 29\, 2021 @ 5pm ET \nFull Applications Due – By invitation only \nApplicants selected for further consideration will be invited to submit a full application due: \nJanuary 14\, 2022 @ 5pm ET \nRead the full RFA here. Learn more about our previous Demonstration Project Awardees here. \nIf you have any questions regarding this funding opportunity\, please refer to our Frequently Asked Questions or email IMPACTcollaboratory@hsl.harvard.edu. \nPlease help to publicize this IMPACT funding opportunity and encourage investigators and colleagues to apply.
