SUMMARY:Informational Webinar: Request for Applications for IMPACT Demonstration Project Program Cycle 2
DESCRIPTION:New Funding Opportunity: Request for Applications for IMPACT Demonstration Project Program\n\n\nThe IMPACT Collaboratory is pleased to announce a Request for Applications (RFA) for the second cycle of the Demonstration Project Program. \nIMPACT will fund up to two Demonstration Projects (maximum duration 24 months) designed as full-scale\, Stage IV effectiveness embedded pragmatic clinical trials (ePCT) (based on the NIH Stage Model) that test\, measure and evaluate the effect of a non-pharmacological care delivery intervention program in a health care system for people living with Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) and AD-related dementias (ADRD) and their care partners.  The goal of the Demonstration Project is to generate evidence on effective care delivery practices that can be expanded and/or implemented in other systems. \nUnder this mechanism\, interventions must be linked to the needs of the health care system.  Suitable interventions typically encompass relatively simple system changes or direct patient outreach\, or successfully piloted programs ready for testing at scale. Demonstration Projects will allow health care systems and investigators to gain real-world experience integrating pragmatic non-pharmacological interventions into usual clinical workflow and health care delivery practices in a controlled manner that provides clear information on the impact of the intervention program. \nThe IMPACT Collaboratory will only fund Demonstration Project applications that include a clinical trial as defined by the National Institutes of Health.  Preference will be given to applications that address dementia care for populations historically marginalized or underrepresented in clinical trials and those that promote health equity. \nIt is anticipated that Demonstration Project awards will be for up to $500\,000 in direct costs for a maximum of 24-months and will be non-renewable. \nLearn more about the Demonstration Projects Program here. \nInformational Webinar \nAn optional informational webinar will be hosted to provide investigators with an overview of application details and an opportunity to ask questions. Pre-registration is required using the link below. \nTuesday\, October 19\, 2021 at 1:00 pm ET: Registration closed. \nLetters of Intent (LOI) by Email – Required\nInterested applicants are required to submit an LOI. LOIs are accepted on a rolling basis through: \nOctober 29\, 2021 @ 5pm ET \nFull Applications Due – By invitation only \nApplicants selected for further consideration will be invited to submit a full application due: \nJanuary 14\, 2022 @ 5pm ET \nRead the full RFA here. Learn more about our previous Demonstration Project Awardees here. \nIf you have any questions regarding this funding opportunity\, please refer to our Frequently Asked Questions or email IMPACTcollaboratory@hsl.harvard.edu. \nPlease help to publicize this IMPACT funding opportunity and encourage investigators and colleagues to apply.

SUMMARY:Career Development Award Proposals Due @ 5pm
DESCRIPTION:Program Overview and Rationale\nThe National Institute on Aging (NIA) Imbedded Pragmatic Alzheimer’s Disease and Alzheimer’s Disease-Related Dementias (AD/ADRD) Clinical Trials (IMPACT) Collaboratory (U54AG063546) was established in 2019 to build the nation’s capacity to conduct embedded pragmatic clinical trials of non-pharmacologic interventions within healthcare systems (HCS) to improve the care of people living with AD/ADRD and their care partners. \nConducting ePCTs in AD/ADRD within HCS requires unique research skills\, yet the field is relatively nascent. The number of investigators capable of rigorously designing and executing ePCTs in partnership with HCS and other key stakeholders remains limited\, and those that have intersecting expertise in AD/ADRD populations are even fewer. Thus\, a critical objective of the IMPACT Collaboratory is to build the nation’s capacity to conduct impactful ePCTs in AD/ADRD by training a workforce of investigators prepared to carry on this work well into the future. \nFunding Opportunity Description\nThe IMPACT Collaboratory funds up to four career development awards (CDAs) annually. These CDAs seek to support the development of early-stage MD\, PhD\, or equivalent researchers who seek careers conducting ePCTs for people living with AD/ADRD and their care partners. The IMPACT Collaboratory prioritizes applications that address dementia care for people of all backgrounds and promote health equity. \nCDA applicants must: \n\nBe no more than 7 years out of their post-doctoral training program at the time of application. With prior approval\, rare exceptions may be made for investigators more than 7 years from postdoctoral training who are seeking to change their career path to pursue research on ePCTs among PLWD.\nDemonstrate a commitment to pursuing a career in conducting ePCTs for PLWD and their care partners. This is best demonstrated by current or prior training\, clinical work\, publications\, or research projects focused on improving care for PLWD and their care partners.\nDemonstrate basic training (post-graduate) in fundamental clinical research methods and have completed training in the ethical conduct of clinical research.\nProvide evidence of prior research productivity in seeking to improve ou tcomes of PLWD.\nIdentify a mentoring team that includes expertise in: (a) conducting ePCTs for PLWD and their care partners; (b) organizational change within healthcare systems; and (c) professional development of clinical researchers.\nDescribe a two-year training plan in collaboration with their mentoring team focused on training in the conduct of ePCTs for PLWD and their care partners.\nPropose a research project focused on: (a) building competency and experience in ePCTs among PLWD; and (b) generating preliminary\, publishable data that will build a foundation for ongoing research focusing on ePCTs for PLWD. Projects may employ a variety of research methods\, such as primary or secondary data analysis\, intervention development\, outcome measure development\, feasibility of implementation\, pilot ePCTs\, or qualitative methods.\nExceptional candidates with also demonstrate access to\, and collaboration with\, organizational leadership within a targeted HCS. This may be demonstrated by a current or planned relationship with health system leadership at the site where the research will be conducted or other evidence of engagement with heath system leadership.\nAttend the annual 2-day IMPACT Collaboratory national Training Workshop and Retreat with your mentor in both years of the CDA\, which will be held in scheduled for April 2022. When available\, these dates can be found at https://impactcollaboratory.org/cda/.\nParticipate in quarterly mentoring meetings with one or more representatives from the IMPACT Collaboratory Core Groups and Teams in addition to regular meetings with their local mentor(s).\n\nRead full details on the Career Development Award Program here: https://impactcollaboratory.org/cda/
