Grant\, MD\, MPH\, is a research scientist at the Kaiser Permanente Division of Research\, Kaiser Permanente Northern California and The Permanente Medical Group regional director of Research and Evaluation for Complex Needs. Dr. Grant is a board-certified primary care physician. He received his medical degree from University of California\, San Francisco\, completed his medical residency training at Massachusetts General Hospital\, and received his MPH from the Harvard School of Public Health. His research focuses on identifying and overcoming barriers to effective primary care in patients with complex diseases. He has a special interest in type 2 diabetes and related chronic conditions. Dr. Grant has published over 120 peer-reviewed scientific papers and is an Associate Editor for JAMA Internal Medicine. Dr. Susan Huang\, will discuss “Evidence for Reducing Infections\, Hospitalizations\, and Antibiotic Resistant Pathogens in Nursing Homes through Universal Nasal Decolonization & Bathing with Chlorhexidine.” \nSusan Huang\, MD\, MPH\, is a professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases and Health Policy Research Institute at the University of California Irvine School of Medicine\, and the medical director of epidemiology and infection prevention at UC Irvine Health. Dr. Huang studies healthcare-associated infections with a focus on multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs). She was a member of the NIH Health Care Systems Research Collaboratory for Pragmatic Clinical Trials to prevent MRSA disease and other healthcare-associated infections. She also studies the regional prevention of MDROs in hospitals and nursing homes through epidemiologic studies as well as simulation models. DESCRIPTION:Join us for IMPACT Grand Rounds on Thursday\, March 21 at 12pm ET with Dr. Julie Bynum who will be presenting on “Diagnosed Dementia in Medicare: Benchmarking for Study Planning and Equity.” \nJulie Bynum\, MD\, MPH\, is the Margaret Terpenning Professor of Medicine in the Division of Geriatric Medicine\, vice chair for faculty affairs\, research professor in the Institute of Gerontology\, Geriatric Center associate director for health policy and research\, and a member of the Institute for Healthcare Policy and Innovation. Dr. Bynum received her medical and public health degrees from Johns Hopkins\, completed her residency and chief residency at Dartmouth\, and completed specialty training in Geriatric Medicine back at Johns Hopkins. She leads interdisciplinary research teams to study questions about the complex drivers of quality and costs for older adults and how to improve health care policy and performance using national administrative data. Dr. Bynum has been an Atlantic Philanthropies Health & Aging Policy Fellow\, was a member of the National Academy of Medicine Committee that published “Vital Signs: Core Metrics for Health and Health Care Progress”\, and was recently a deputy editor of the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society. She is currently a member of the National Academy of Medicine Forum on Aging\, Disability\, and Independence\, and on a NAM workshop planning committee on adverse consequences of cancer treatment.
