SUMMARY:Grand Rounds: James Flory\, MD\, MSCE | Decision Architecture Randomization Trials: Extremely Low-Cost Trials with Preservation of Clinician and Patient Choice
DESCRIPTION:Join us for IMPACT Grand Rounds on Thursday\, September 21 at 12pm ET with Dr. James Flory who will be presenting on the “Decision Architecture Randomization Trials: Extremely Low-Cost Trials with Preservation of Clinician and Patient Choice.” \nDr. James Flory is an endocrinologist and clinical epidemiologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center\, specializing in the management of hyperglycemia and diabetes in cancer patients. Dr. Flory’s research career began with a pre-doctoral fellowship in bioethics at the NIH\, where his work on ethical and logistical challenges to traditional randomized controlled trials led him to become very interested in alternative clinical research approaches\, especially observational studies. Much of his subsequent career has focused on the application of observational study methodologies to answer comparative effectiveness questions\, supported by funding from AHRQ\, NIH\, and PCORI. His research has largely focused on diabetes care\, particularly around metformin use\, and he was part of a successful effort to revise the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) label for metformin to make it accessible to hundreds of thousands of patients for whom it had been inappropriately contraindicated. In recent years\, Dr. Flory’s research has increasingly focused on the intersection of diabetes and cancer treatment\, with a particular focus on supportive care in patients with hyperglycemia in the setting of breast and pancreatic cancer. His major research focus now is a PCORI-funded methods development project to work on a novel pragmatic trial design called a Decision Architecture Randomization Trial (DART). DART is intended to permit extremely efficient\, low-cost\, and safe studies of clinical comparative effectiveness questions that would not be likely to attract the resources needed for a traditional clinical trial. \n  \nZoom Conferencing\nJoin from PC\, Mac\, iOS or Android: https://hebrewseniorlife.zoom.us/j/97344810673\nDial-In:  +1 312 626 6799 (US Toll) or  +1 470 250 9358 (US Toll)\nMeeting ID:  973 4481 0673 \nPDF Flyer: IMPACT GR | J. SUMMARY:Grand Rounds: Fan Li\, PhD | Methods for Designing Cluster Randomized Trials to Detect Treatment Effect Heterogeneity
DESCRIPTION:Join us for IMPACT Grand Rounds on Thursday\, February 16 at 12pm ET with Dr. Li who will be presenting on the “Methods for Designing Cluster Randomized Trials to Detect Treatment Effect Heterogeneity.” \nFan Li\, PhD\, is an assistant professor in the Department of Biostatistics at Yale School of Public Health\, and faculty member in the Center for Methods in Implementation and Prevention Science and the Yale Center for Analytical Sciences. He received his Ph.D. in biostatistics from Duke University in May 2019\, and joined the Yale Biostatistics faculty in July 2019. His main expertise is in the development of methods for designing and analyzing pragmatic cluster randomized trials\, causal inference for randomized trials and observational studies\, and techniques for improving internal and external validity for treatment comparison under different study designs. He is the Principal Investigator of a Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI)-funded methods award that investigates new study planning methods and software for testing treatment effect heterogeneity in cluster randomized trials. His research has also been supported by several additional PCORI-funded and NIH-funded awards. Dr. Li is currently an Executive Committee member of the Design and Statistics Core at the NIA IMPACT Collaboratory. Since 2013\, he has also been a member of the Biostatistics and Study Design Core at the NIH Pragmatic Trials Collaboratory and contributed to the application of new statistical methods to funded Demonstration Projects. \nZoom Conferencing\nJoin from PC\, Mac\, iOS or Android: https://hebrewseniorlife.zoom.us/j/97344810673\nDial-In:  +1 312 626 6799 (US Toll) or  +1 470 250 9358 (US Toll)\nMeeting ID:  973 4481 0673 \nPDF Flyer: IMPACT GR_Fan Li_2/16/2023_FINAL

The workshop will include a combination of activities including: panel discussions\, small group sessions\, and networking opportunities with experts in the field. \nWe are inviting applications from early to mid-stage researchers who seek to develop competence in designing and conducting ePCTs of non-pharmacological interventions embedded in health care systems for PLWD and care partners. \nUpon completion of the workshop\, participants will be able to: \n\nTransmit knowledge about designing and conducting ePCTs among PLWD and care partners in health care systems that integrates considerations related to identifying PLWD and ascertaining pragmatic outcomes\nProblem-solve common challenges in designing and conducting ePCTs for PLWD and care partners\nApply the acquired knowledge to move their current and future research in ePCTs forward\, including applying for competitive funding\n\nSuccessful applicants will be expected to complete selected readings and online training prior to the workshop. All participants are expected to attend and participate in the entire 1.5-day event. \nHOW TO APPLY \nPlease submit your online application using the following link:\nIMPACT Training Workshop Application \nDeadline: October 21\, 2022 \nEligibility Criteria: \n\nApplicants should have an MD\, PhD\, or equivalent research degree\nHold a full-time position at an academic or research organization in the United States\nEarly-stage investigators pursuing careers conducting ePCTs in AD/ADRD\nMid-career investigators seeking to pursue research on ePCTs in AD/ADRD\n\nIndividuals from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups as well as individuals with disabilities are encouraged to apply. \nSelection Criteria: Applicants will be selected based on their demonstrated commitment to improving care of PLWD and/or their care partners through the conduct of ePCTs in HCS and the potential impact of the workshop on promoting the applicant’s career in this area. \nFind the working agenda and more information about the workshop on our website at impactcollaboratory.org/training-workshop.
