SUMMARY:Words Matter: Nomenclature in Dementia with Jason Karlawish and Angela Taylor
DESCRIPTION:Penn Memory Center at University of Pennsylvania Health System\, is hosting a virtual event with IMPACT’s Jason Karlawish\, MD and Angela Taylor\, who will discuss the shortcomings and challenges of nomenclature in Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. Karlawish and Taylor are working to find the answers to questions like: \n\nWhat’s the difference between Alzheimer’s disease and dementia?\nShould we still use the word dementia?\nDoes it make sense to say that a person with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) can progress to Alzheimer’s disease?\nIn the term “ADRD\,” which stands for Alzheimer’s Disease and Related\, does the second “D” stand for “disease\,” “disorder\,” or “dementia”?\n\nThe “Words Matter: Nomenclature in Dementia” event will take place January 18\, 2023 at 12 pm ET. \nRegistration closed.

SUMMARY:NIA/RCMAR Preconference workshop - Pragmatic intervention trials with diverse older adults
DESCRIPTION:This workshop on November 2 at the Gerontological Society of America’s preconference will focus on the pragmatic clinical trial as an exemplar of an innovative research design that can foster the performance of trials in real world settings\, with representative patient populations\, and outcome measures that “matter most” to patients and caregivers. Leaders of funded projects will describe how they applied pragmatic trial principles in study design and implementation. The advantages and challenges of conducting pragmatic clinical trials with diverse populations of older adults\, including those living with Alzheimer’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease related dementias (AD/ADRD)\, will be discussed. Registration is open to RCMAR Faculty and Scientists (current and alumni). \nRegistration closed.

SUMMARY:Release Date for 2 Requests for Applications: Pilot Grants and Demonstration Projects
DESCRIPTION:Notice of Intent (NOI) to Publish Two New Funding Opportunities on August 1\, 2022\n\n\nThe IMPACT Collaboratory is pleased to announce plans to publish new Requests for Applications (RFA) for Pilot Grants and Demonstration Projects on August 1\, 2022*. Letters of Intent for both opportunities are due mid-September 2022. \n*August 1st is the new RFA release date. This date has been modified from the original date\, which was August 15th. \nPilot Grants Program\nIMPACT funds one-year awards of pilot pragmatic clinical trials (ePCTs) that test non-pharmacological interventions embedded in health care system(s) for people living with Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) and AD-related dementias (ADRD) and their care partners. The goal of these pilot studies is to generate the preliminary data necessary to design and conduct a future full-scale Stage IV effectiveness ePCT (based on the NIH Stage Model). Learn more about previous awardees at this link. \nIn this cycle\, priority will be given to applications for interventions in this population that aim to:\n• Reduce inequities in health care\n• Reduce potentially inappropriate medications through de-prescribing\n• Improve care in the emergency department \nDemonstration Projects Program \nIMPACT funds 18-month Demonstration Projects designed as full-scale\, Stage IV effectiveness ePCTs (based on the NIH Stage Model) that test\, measure and evaluate the effect of a care delivery intervention program in health care systems for people living with ADRD and their care partners. The goal of these Demonstration Projects is to generate evidence on effective care delivery practices that can be expanded and/or implemented in other systems. The intervention will typically encompass relatively simple system changes or direct patient outreach\, or successfully piloted programs ready for testing at scale. Demonstration Projects allow health care systems and investigators to gain real-world experience integrating pragmatic non-pharmacologic interventions into usual clinical workflow and health care delivery practices in a controlled manner that provides clear information on the impact of the intervention program. Learn more about previous awardees at this link. \nUpdates on these two RFAs will be posted on the  Grants and Training Programs page.

DESCRIPTION:Pilot Grants Program Cycle 4A Applications selected for further consideration will be invited to submit a full proposal due June 17\, 2022 @ 5pm ET. \n  \n\nFunding Details \nIn this cycle\, the IMPACT Collaboratory will fund up to five 1-year awards for pilot pragmatic clinical trials (ePCTs) that test non-pharmacological interventions embedded in health care system(s) for people living with AD/ADRD and their care partners. Pilot Studies will be funded for up to $175\,000 in direct costs for a maximum of 12-months. For more information\, please see our Pilot Grants Program page. \nThe goal of the pilot projects is to generate the preliminary data necessary to design and conduct a future full-scale Stage IV effectiveness ePCT (based on the NIH Stage Model) funded through other grant mechanisms (NIH or other sources) \nThe IMPACT Collaboratory will consider all applications for pilot ePCTs that evaluate non-pharmacological interventions to improve the care of people living with AD/ADRD and their care partners. This grant cycle will prioritize applications for interventions in these populations that aim to: \n\nImprove care through behavioral economics “nudge” interventions;\nReduce inequities in health care;\nReduce potentially inappropriate medications through de-prescribing; or\nImprove care in emergency departments.
