SUMMARY:Virtual Forum: Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) Consortium to Advance Health Equity and Researcher Diversity (AIM-AHEAD)
DESCRIPTION:The Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) Consortium to Advance Health Equity and Researcher Diversity (AIM-AHEAD) virtual forum will occur on Friday\, June 25th (1:00-4:00 PM EDT). This virtual forum aims to bring together stakeholders across academia\, federal agencies\, the data science/tech industry\, and health care systems and centers who are interested in leveraging artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) for research\, with a primary focus on mitigating health disparities.  The purpose of this meeting will be to provide an overview of the initiative approved for funding by NIH and then engage attendees in listening sessions via breakout groups which will focused on three main topics: research interests\, computing infrastructure and resources\, and training needs. The meeting will conclude with a report back from these smaller breakout discussions and a final summary of the forum discussion and anticipated next steps.  The feedback from this event will inform the establishment of mutually beneficial and  coordinated partnerships to increase the participation and representation of researchers and communities currently underrepresented in the development of AI/ML models and enhance the capabilities of this emerging technology\, beginning with EHR data.  \n  \nRegistration Closed: Due to the enthusiastic response\, the AIM-AHEAD Team have reached the participation limit to ensure meaningful conversation\, so they have closed registration.  Over the next several weeks\, they will have additional opportunities for people to provide feedback and ask questions\, including a formal Request for Information (RFI) to gather written comments.  They will also post a meeting summary of this stakeholder forum. If you have any questions about this event\, please contact AIM-AHEAD@od.nih.gov.

SUMMARY:Advancing Research on Care and Outcome Measurements (ARCOM) funding program Letters of Intent due
DESCRIPTION:In  collaboration with LINC-AD (Leveraging an Interdisciplinary Consortium to Improve Care and Outcomes for Persons Living with Alzheimer’s and Dementia)\, the Alzheimer’s Association is currently accepting applications for the new Advancing Research on Care and Outcome Measurements (ARCOM) funding program.  The goal of the program is to address gaps in care and outcome measurement and advance research efforts to ensure that care providers are implementing evidence-based practices (using measures to guide care provision) and achieving desired outcomes (using measures to assess outcomes).  Work funded through ARCOM must directly advance research projects focused on development of new and/or validation of previously developed measures of care and outcomes where measurement gaps exist. \nThe Alzheimer’s Association anticipates funding up to 8 ACROM proposals for up to  $250\,000 total funding (direct and indirect costs) over a period of up to two years (minimum of 1 year). \nRead the full RFA here. A letter of intent is due by May 5.  \nTo learn more about this funding opportunity\, visit their website.

SUMMARY:Career Development Award Proposals Due @ 5pm
DESCRIPTION:Program Overview and Rationale\nThe National Institute on Aging (NIA) Imbedded Pragmatic Alzheimer’s Disease and Alzheimer’s Disease-Related Dementias (AD/ADRD) Clinical Trials (IMPACT) Collaboratory (U54AG063546) was established in 2019 to build the nation’s capacity to conduct embedded pragmatic clinical trials of non-pharmacologic interventions within healthcare systems (HCS) to improve the care of people living with AD/ADRD and their care partners. \nConducting ePCTs in AD/ADRD within HCS requires unique research skills\, yet the field is relatively nascent. The number of investigators capable of rigorously designing and executing ePCTs in partnership with HCS and other key stakeholders remains limited\, and those that have intersecting expertise in AD/ADRD populations are even fewer. Thus\, a critical objective of the IMPACT Collaboratory is to build the nation’s capacity to conduct impactful ePCTs in AD/ADRD by training a workforce of investigators prepared to carry on this work well into the future. \nFunding Opportunity Description\nThe IMPACT Collaboratory funds up to four career development awards (CDAs) annually. These CDAs seek to support the development of early-stage MD\, PhD\, or equivalent researchers who seek careers conducting ePCTs for people living with AD/ADRD and their care partners. The IMPACT Collaboratory prioritizes applications that address dementia care for people of all backgrounds and promote health equity. \nCDA applicants must: \n\nBe no more than 7 years out of their post-doctoral training program at the time of application. With prior approval\, rare exceptions may be made for investigators more than 7 years from postdoctoral training who are seeking to change their career path to pursue research on ePCTs among PLWD.\nDemonstrate a commitment to pursuing a career in conducting ePCTs for PLWD and their care partners. This is best demonstrated by current or prior training\, clinical work\, publications\, or research projects focused on improving care for PLWD and their care partners.\nDemonstrate basic training (post-graduate) in fundamental clinical research methods and have completed training in the ethical conduct of clinical research.\nProvide evidence of prior research productivity in seeking to improve ou tcomes of PLWD.\nIdentify a mentoring team that includes expertise in: (a) conducting ePCTs for PLWD and their care partners; (b) organizational change within healthcare systems; and (c) professional development of clinical researchers.\nDescribe a two-year training plan in collaboration with their mentoring team focused on training in the conduct of ePCTs for PLWD and their care partners.\nPropose a research project focused on: (a) building competency and experience in ePCTs among PLWD; and (b) generating preliminary\, publishable data that will build a foundation for ongoing research focusing on ePCTs for PLWD. Projects may employ a variety of research methods\, such as primary or secondary data analysis\, intervention development\, outcome measure development\, feasibility of implementation\, pilot ePCTs\, or qualitative methods.\nExceptional candidates with also demonstrate access to\, and collaboration with\, organizational leadership within a targeted HCS. This may be demonstrated by a current or planned relationship with health system leadership at the site where the research will be conducted or other evidence of engagement with heath system leadership.\nAttend the annual 2-day IMPACT Collaboratory national Training Workshop and Retreat with your mentor in both years of the CDA\, which will be held in scheduled for April 2022. When available\, these dates can be found at https://impactcollaboratory.org/cda/.\nParticipate in quarterly mentoring meetings with one or more representatives from the IMPACT Collaboratory Core Groups and Teams in addition to regular meetings with their local mentor(s).\n\nRead full details on the Career Development Award Program here: https://impactcollaboratory.org/cda/

SUMMARY:Pragmatic Trials in Long-Term Care: A Consensus Conference
DESCRIPTION:Virtually | March 10\, 2021 | 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM EST | funded by the National Institute of Aging and led by editors of three leading geriatrics journals — JAMDA (The Journal of Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine)\, JAGS (The Journal of the American Geriatrics Society)\, and Geriatric Nursing – will identify priorities and best practices for pragmatic trials in long-term care\, with a focus on care for persons with dementia. \nExperts across the globe agree that we are at a tipping point to improve systems of long-term care for older adults; they also agree that pragmatic trials are the most promising strategy toward that end. However\, the focus of such trials\, the best methods with which to conduct them\, how best to share results\, and how best to promote uptake of evidence-proven practices\, are far from clear. \nSpeakers include internationally renowned research experts\, directors of national long-term care organizations\, and leaders of national associations and societies. IMPACT Member Participants include Joe Gaugler\, PhD\, David Gifford\, MD\, MPH\, Laura Hanson\, MD\, MPH\, Vince Mor\, PhD\, Kathleen Unroe\, MD\, MHA\, Sheryl Zimmerman\, PhD. \nTarget Audience: This conference is intended for providers\, researchers\, and policy makers who aim to promote better care in nursing homes\, assisted living communities\, and other residential settings that serve older adults. \nFor more details and registration\, visit: https://www.eventscribe.net/2021/PALTC21/aaStatic.asp?SFP=WUtSUUxCQk1ANjQ2Nw
