Career Development Awardee, Chanee Fabius, PhD, and Health Care Systems Scholar, Hillary Lum, MD, PhD, among authors of article describes efforts to assemble evidence and concepts from the literature describing interpersonal communication, relational coordination theory and systems-thinking towards the development of an integrative framework describing the care partner’s role in applied consumer-oriented health information technologies (CHIT) innovations such as patient portals. Our framework describes pathways through which systematic engagement of the care partner affects longitudinal work processes and multi-level outcomes relevant to Learning Health Systems.
