Roee Gutman, PhD, Executive Committee member of the IMPACT Design & Statistics Core, and Vincent Mor, PhD, a Principal Investigator for the IMPACT Collaboratory are among the authors of an article about adverse effects from the COVID-19 vaccine booster in nursing home residents. The article was published in Journal of American Geriatrics Society on April 23.
The article compares rates of adverse events among nursing home residents who received an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine booster with those who had not yet received the booster. Researchers assessed 11,200 nursing home residents who received a primary COVID-19 mRNA vaccine series at least 6 months prior to September 22, 2021 and received a third booster dose between September 22, 2021 and February 2, 2022. Study outcomes suggest that frail, nursing home residents are not at a higher risk for adverse events following booster vaccination than those who had not yet received it.
