Bio
Scott D. Halpern, MD, PhD, is a professor of medicine, epidemiology, and medical ethics and health policy at the University of Pennsylvania. He is director of the Palliative and Advanced Illness Research (PAIR) Center and the NIA- funded Roybal Center, “Transforming residential palliative care for persons with dementia through behavioral economics and data science.” Dr. Halpern’s research focuses on developing and testing interventions to improve the value of health care delivery for patients and caregivers affected by serious illnesses, including dementia. He is an elected member of ASCI and AAP and has received numerous awards for research and mentoring, including the 2017 American Federation for Medical Research’s Outstanding Investigator Award for the best scientist in any field under the age of 45, the Association of Clinical and Translational Science’s Distinguished Investigator Award for Lifetime Achievement in translation of clinical practice into public benefit and policy, and the Arthur K. Asbury Outstanding Faculty Mentor Award.
