IMPACT Health Care Systems (HCS) Scholar, Hillary Lum, MD, PhD, is among the authors of a new publication, Embedding Authorship Identity into a Portal-Based Agenda Setting Intervention to Support Older Adults and Care Partners, which describes an adaptation to OurNotes.
OurNotes is a portal-based pre-visit agenda-setting questionnaire. The study adapted OurNotes to include a self-identification question to help clinicians interpret information authored by nonpatients.
Using a cross-sectional chart review of OurNotes completion, the team collected patient characteristics, and visit topics by author type and conducted clinician interviews to explore the experiences with OurNotes. The investigation indicated that a self-identification question can identify nonpatient authors of OurNotes but future work is needed to know if the addition improves care quality, especially when care partners are involved.
