IMPACT investigator publishes results of first known study to provide methods for calculating normed scores for cognitive dispersion indices among older adults

Development and Validity of Norms for Cognitive Dispersion on the Uniform Data Set 3.0 Neuropsychological Battery

February 13, 2024

IMPACT Career Development Awardee Andrew Kiselica, PhD, and coauthors describe the team’s efforts to develop and validate the normed scores for cognitive dispersion among older adults. Investigators analyzed data from 4,283 cognitively normal older adults aged 50 or above using the Uniform Data Set (UDS) 3.0.

Study findings suggest that the normed scores may have value in differentiating cognitively normal individuals from those with cognitive impairment due to Lewy body disease. The investigators call for more work to provide evidence for the validity of these scores in other populations and for other purposes.

A user-friendly Excel calculator is included in the supplemental materials to facilitate use of these normed scores in practice.
