The Long-Term Care Data Cooperative: The Next Generation of Data Integration
October 6, 2022
A recent article in the Journal of the American Medical Directors Association (JAMDA) describes the innovation of the Long-Term Care (LTC) Data Cooperative and how it fills the data gap for nursing home residents in clinical trials.
The LTC Data Cooperative assembles residents’ electronic health records (EHRs) from the major specialty vendors and facilitates linkage of these data with Medicare claims to create a comprehensive, longitudinal patient record. The article describes the initiative as a substantial innovation in the richness and timeliness of the data infrastructure of the nursing home population and that the Cooperative holds the promise of improving representation in clinical research.
The LTC Data Cooperative is funded by the National Institute on Aging and is a collaboration among providers and stakeholders in academia, government, and the private sector. The IMPACT Collaboratory is a partner in the LTC Data Cooperative, and authors of the JAMDA article include David Gifford, MD, MPH, member of the Health Care Systems Core executive committee, and Vincent Mor, PhD, multiple principal investigator of the IMPACT Collaboratory.
