Helping patients understand the results of an amyloid PET scan

SOKRATES (the Study of Knowledge and Reactions to Amyloid Testing), led by Emily Largent, PhD, and Jason Karlawish, MD from the IMPACT Collaboratory Regulation and Ethics Core, followed 80 cognitively unimpaired older adults for a year to understand the impact of learning the results of an amyloid PET scan, a common test used to determine the presence of brain amyloid, a biomarker for Alzheimer’s disease.  The results of the study were recently published in PLOS One.
