Bio
Philip Wang, MD, DrPH, is a professor of the practice of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School (HMS), and a professor in the Department of Epidemiology at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. He also directs the Learning Health Systems Center at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, which helps systems collect and integrate digital and real-world data from electronic health records (EHRs) and administrative claims, to continuously improve access, quality, and outcomes. Dr. Wang completed his undergraduate degree in biochemistry, medical school, masters and doctoral degrees in epidemiology, as well as psychiatry residency and chief residency, all at Harvard University. He was a faculty member at HMS and BWH until 2006, when he went to serve as deputy director of the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH). He has also served as the deputy medical director and director of research for the American Psychiatric Association (APA) where he helped develop the APA’s national quality reporting registry (PsychPRO) and oversaw the recent text revision of DSM. He is currently PI of an NIMH UG3 grant to develop and test clinical decision support tools to personalize treatment-resistant depression care. He has also been awarded research grants from CMS, NIDA, AHRQ, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. He has served on several NIH Study Sections, as well as the FDA Psychopharmacologic Drugs Advisory Committee, FDA Medical Devices Advisory Committee, and FDA Endocrinologic and Metabolic Drugs Advisory Committee.

Ms. Wessell has contributed to numerous studies aimed at improving the quality of care for people living with advanced illness, including Alzheimer’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease related dementias (AD/ADRD). She significantly contributed to the development of the PCRO iLibraries of high-quality outcome assessments relevant to pragmatic AD/ADRD research.

Elizabeth (Betsy) White, APRN, PhD, is an assistant professor of health services, policy, and practice at the Brown University School of Public Health. Her research agenda broadly focuses on understanding how medically-complex older adults, including people living with dementia and people living in nursing homes, receive healthcare, and how factors affecting the nursing and primary care workforces impact care quality and health outcomes for this population. She has assisted in the construction of large data systems of nursing home electronic health records to examine various aspects of COVID-19 management, treatment, and outcomes among nursing home residents and staff during the pandemic, and to support observational and interventional research in nursing homes more broadly.
